When did you first get involved with CCFI?

I don’t recall the exact date I started serving on the board, but it was late 1970’s – probably about 1978 or 1979 when the organization was known as JSI.

Why were you moved to join CCFI as a Board Member?

I was recruited by Duane Draper who was the President of the board at that time. He encouraged me to get involved and it turned out to be a very rewarding experience for me and hopefully useful for the organization.

What do you enjoy most about your service on the Board?

The staff was very small and serving on the board in the early years of the organization offered me the opportunity to be more “hands on” than in a larger organization. While the board didn’t provide counseling, the board was focused on what it took to assist the organization to be able to grow. I was so impressed with the quality and dedication of the staff when funding was tight and the need for services was growing. I also had the opportunity to serve along with other board members and staff and met some wonderful, dedicated people who were (and still are) committed to serving families. Serving with Libba Smith (long time Executive Director) was a highlight of my years on the board.

What do you feel is the biggest impact CCFI has made on the community?

From those humble beginnings with the “office” located in the basement of the old post office, to the fantastic CCFI complex now demonstrates that the need continues. CCFI has been pro-active in serving the growing need for continuing to have a focus on children. The longevity of the organization is very impressive. Keep up the good work!

What would you like to say to encourage others to get involved with CCFI, whether by donating or volunteering?

There are not many charitable organizations that have been around 40 plus years providing a significant impact on our community. This takes both money and people dedicated to continuing the mission. Funding is always a need in social service organizations and CCFI relies on donors to help provide services.
